In My Mailbox (IMM) is weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. It’s a chance for people to tell others about the books they received that week.
This week, I was lucky enough to attend the Oxford University Press blogger event (thank you Vicki for getting me an invite!) and I had a lot of fun meeting authors, publishers and fellow bloggers, and I came back with an excellent haul:
Stealing Phoenix by Joss Stirling
Joss Stirling was one of the authors at the OUP event and she read an extract from Stealing Phoenix. I’m interested to see how different this is from Finding Sky. She was also lovely and signed my copy for me.
15 Days Without a Head by David Cousins
David Cousins was the second author at the event and he also (hilariously) read an extract from his début book, to be released January 2012. He was extremely friendly and modest; I’m looking forward to reading this one. Again, he kindly signed it for me.
Mortal Chaos by Matt Dickinson
We were also given a proof copy of Mortal Chaos, which is due to be released in February. The synopsis is “One beat of a butterfly’s wings is all it takes. One beat that will change lives. One beat that will end lives”. Intriguing!
Whittard of Chelsea’s Coconut Hot Chocolate
There was a stack of Whittard’s hot chocolate (chilli, coconut, winter spice, cinnamon, white chocolate, luxury, and more) and we could take any one we wanted! I chose coconut as I’ve never had anything like it before.
I also got two other books this week:
Velvet by Mary Hooper
Thank you Casey at Dark Readers for nabbing me a copy and for getting it signed!
The Other Life by Susanne Winnacker
I won this in Presenting Lenore’s giveaway and I am SO HAPPY. I’m a huge fan of young adult dystopia & post-apocalyptic fiction and this one sounds great: “Sherry and her father leave the safety of the bunker and find a devastated and empty LA, smashed to pieces by bombs and haunted by ‘Weepers’ – rabid humans infected with a weaponized rabies virus.”
